Oxnard Public Library Main Branch

Mission Statement

The goals of the Oxnard Friends of the Library Foundation are to support the Oxnard Public Library by raising funds to benefit the Library and its patrons, and to increase community awareness of the Library. To accomplish these goals, funds are earned by selling donated books, conducting trips, by operating a gift shop in the library and other appropriate activities. These funds, earned entirely by volunteers, will be used to supplement the Oxnard Public Library budget to purchase equipment, books, and audio-visual materials. The funds will also be used to sponsor and/or supplement library projects and events for both children and adults in our community. Oxnard Friends of the Library Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit California Corporation.

Gift Shop

Friends Books & Things Gift Shop is housed in the Oxnard Public Library, 251 South 'A' Street, Oxnard, CA 93030. As a non-profit store, we sell a variety of merchandise from stationery to sculpture. The Shop is run by the Oxnard Friends of the Library through their generous contributions of time and money. Purchases benefit the Library.

Guidelines for Library Donations

The Library appreciates your donations; however, we are unable to accept some materials. For the health and safety of Library employees and volunteers, and for the integrity of the Library's collection, the following will not be accepted:

  • Books or magazines with yellowed or torn pages
  • Books or magazines that are dirty, moldy, or have an offensive odor
  • Books or magazines with any signs of insect infestation
  • Reader's Digest condensed books
  • Encyclopedias older than five years
  • Computer, medical, law, real estate or financial investment books older than three years
  • Computer / Office equipment

Some donated materials will be added to the library's collection, and others will be given to the Oxnard Friends of the Library Foundation for their used book sales.  The funds raised by the Foundation's used book sales benefit our community by supporting children's, teen, and adult programs and are also used for the purchase of new library materials.
